Choosing A Moving Company

Choosing A Moving Company

Moving is stressful occurrence, but choosing the right moving company can help ease the worry. A moving company will make the process easier on you and your family. Finding a moving company that you trust is essential.  Follow the below tips when choosing a moving company to make sure you find the one that fits your needs:

  • Make sure you feel absolutely comfortable with whatever moving company you end up using. This is the most important tip!
  • Don’t wait until last minute to research the companies. This will make the process very exhausting and rushed.
  • Look around a few different places for moving companies. Ask friends, ask storage facilities, google the area, and check Angie’s List.
    • In Harrisonburg, Virginia we recommend, Mountain Moving LLC.
    • In Lexington, Virginia we recommend, Bolin’s Moving (Hugh Bolen). Bolin’s Moving can be reached at 540-570-6263.
    • In Martinsburg, West Virginia we recommend, Rockwell’s Moving. Rockwell’s Moving can be reached at 304-263-6683.
    • In North Ridgeville, Ohio we recommend, D&D Moving Company.
    • In Medina, Ohio we recommend, Two Men & A Truck.
    • In Dillsburg, Pennsylvania we recommend, MF Rockey Moving Company. MF Rockey Moving Company can be reached at 717-737-1797.
  • Do an initial screening of the company to check their viability and featuresl. Ask if they are insured, if they background check employees, how long they have been in business, if they have the proper licenses to cross state lines, etc.
  • Look at reviews on social media, such as yelp, facebook, movingscam.com, etc.
  • Ask at least 2 companies for in-home estimates (3-4 are better, so you make sure you get the best price).
  • Make sure the in-home estimates cover everything-check the contract to be sure everything you need is covered/included.
  • Make sure estimates mention appropriate licenses (i.e. carrier license, if applicable)
  • Did the mover make you aware of the moving insurance for your goods?
  • Get a written copy of inventory on moving day from the movers.
  • When your belongings arrive at your new home, immediately check for any damages/missing items.
  • Some moving companies will charge for using their boxes/supplies-make sure there are no hidden charges that you didn’t want.

Packing your belongings is always part of the process when moving. The last thing you want to happen when you arrive at your new location is to have broken or damaged belongings.  Below are moving tips to make sure your belongings arrive safely at their new home and to make the process easier:

  • Label boxes with a sharpie or sticker labels. When you begin unpacking in your new home, you will find your belongings much easier!
  • Along with labeling boxes, it can help to add what room they belong in.
  • Disassemble larger furniture if possible. This will help to save space in the moving trucks, allowing you to fit more of your belongings in a smaller area.
  • Use ziplock bags or small containers for parts, such as the bolts or screws from furniture. Attach the container/bag to the object it came from so that it’s easier to put back together.
  • Make a moving list. Although you may think you can keep track of everything, a list will help make sure nothing is forgotten and everything ends up where it belongs.
